Christmas & New Eve 2014 will be particularly exciting at St. Peter’s: beyond a huge Christmas tree and the traditional Nativity scene, we will see the Church itself dressed up with new lights.
December this year coincides indeed with the installation of a new lighting system on St. Peter’s dome.
It will be launched on 19 December at 4.30 pm, the same time when the lights of both the Christmas tree and the Nativity scenes will be powered on.
The cerimony will be performed by Pope Francis.
The new lights include 350 LED spots, which will guarantee a better result in terms of brightness and energy saving. A similar system was introduced into the Sistine Chapel only a couple of months ago.
