The area around the hostel is full of bars, restaurants, trattorias, pizzerias and the like. A lot of these places offer excellent food for really low prices.

Breakfast is not included in your room price. At Des Artistes, we serve a full continental buffet breakfast in our fifth floor bar area or on the roof top terrace. Breakfast is served from 7.30 to 10 am. The cost is 12 € per person.
We also have a special deal with the Payo Café across the street: Des Artistes guests pay only €1.50 for a traditional Italian breakfast that consists in a cornetto (sweet croissant) and cappuccino, coffee or caffelatte.
Alternatively, the vending machines on the second floor common room of Hostel Des Artistes have bread rolls, croissants and hot drinks.

The area around the hostel is full of nice places for your wining and dining. We especially recommend:
Trattoria Mamma Angela - A nice neighbourhood trattoria just around the corner from the hostel. You can find typical Italian and Roman dishes here at very reasonable prices. Hostel guests enjoy a 10% discount at Mamma Angela.
Restaurant Bistro - A French Bistro style restaurant around the corner from the hostel, in Via Palestro. Slightly more pricey than Mamma Angela, this stylish restaurant offers Italian and Roman specialities, pasta, meat and fish. It has an excellent wine card. Des Artistes guests enjoy a 10% discount.

Yummy yummy yummy..... Mandatory dishes
Spaghetti alla Carbonara
Literally, it means spaghetti in the way of the coal miners wife. According to legend, the dish was popular with miners because the few ingredients could easily be carried. When appetite knocked, a simple campfire in the woods was all that was needed to make an elegant meal. The dish consist of spaghetti with a rich sauce of eggs, bacon, parmezan cheese and pecorino cheese.
Saltimbocca alla Romana
One of Rome's most famous dishes. It literally means "Jumps in the mouth"... and that's actually true, it is so good you can't wait to eat it. It consists of veal cutlets with ham, sage and white wine.
Carciofi alla Romana
Artichokes Roman style. Boiled and then pan cooked with olive oil and garlic.
Stracciatella
Roman egg-drop soup with cheese and chicken.
Tiramisù
The world famous Italian desert. Literally it means "Lift me up". It is made of mascarpone cheese and ladyfingers among others.

This hostel was the best one we stayed at in Italy! It was clean, safe, quiet and the staff was great! The location is perfect - it was close to the train station so it made it easy to ride the metro. I highly recommend this place!
